This story begins at the end of March, 2010. Logan Schoenhardt was three at that time. He had become increasingly unsteady on his feet, losing his balance several times a day. An MRI showed that he was enduring with a grapefruit sized tumor in his skull. An extensive team of surgeons and others successfully removed the tumor during a lengthy surgery at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. After a team of doctors consulted up and down the East Coast, the diagnosis was a high grade sarcoma in the skull. There are less than a dozen recorded cases of this type of cancer in the skull.
In September, the tumor began to return, and Logan is currently following a protocol of chemotherapy and radiation. There are many procedures ahead in the coming years. Thankfully, the family does have a major medical policy in place. However, there are many expensive medicines, co-pays, and other expenses that go well beyond their coverage. The family will need to stay in Boston for weeks of treatment at Dana Farber, adding to the bills.
Logan’s father, Matthew, is an independent contractor in real estate, and is carrying on in a difficult market to provide for his family, as well as help with the care of the children during this trial. He has taken on additional full-time employment at a local restaurant at night. The family is currently living with his parents to help with care and save on costs.
Logan’s parents have accepted that this is a trial they cannot endure alone, and are grateful for any help people feel called to provide. Will you join us in caring for this family? You can be part of Logan’s “Circle of Love”, by:
